East Sussex Bach Choir

Background

The Choir was established in 1986 by Roger Durston, then Director of Music Education for East Sussex. Initially, the membership consisted mainly of individuals professionally engaged in the world of music as teachers, lecturers, administrators and students of music. However, over the years membership has diversified and has been enriched by singers from across the region, drawn together by a shared commitment to performance of baroque and other music.

The East Sussex Bach Choir routinely performs with the Sussex Baroque Players, a group of professional musicians of national and international repute who specialise in period instrument performance. In developing its musical identity the ESBC has also formed lasting working relationships with professional singers of international standing.

The Choir is particularly committed to performance of works from the baroque and early classical periods, but is also proud of its versatility in performing music of all types.
